: Frontpage : General Information
This site exists to foster discussion on a multitude of topics. Those topics are drawn from the interests of the editors and the members of the site. Articles are posted on the front and section pages. Additionally, every member is encouraged to post their own articles and thoughts in their own personal "journal" section. Anything written as a journal may be recommended by other members for publication on one of the main pages. Further, everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions attached to each article and journal.
  Browser Compatibility
This site utilizes modern web standards including XHTML 1.1 and CSS2. As such, we strongly recommend using a modern, standards compliant browser capable of rendering this site properly. We recommend current versions of Mozilla and its related projects, Safari, Konqueror, and Netscape. Internet Explorer and Opera will also mostly work. If you experience problems with this site and are using the latest version of one of these browsers, please let us know. If you're not using the latest version, please try the latest version of your current browser, or the latest version of another browser.

We recognize that some people have older machines that do not run modern browsers well. We also recognize that others are unable to upgrade to a modern browser due to corporate restrictions. While we find both of these situations lamentable, we do not intend to revamp the site to accommodate older technologies. We will, however, do our best to work around minor quirks and bugs in current browsers.

Yes, we are aware that a few people may feel alienated by our decision to support only current standards. However, we feel it is appropriate for web sites to use whatever technology is current at the time they are (re)designed. Additionally, it is our desire to set an example for the online community.
  Screen Size
This site is designed to be viewed at a screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. If your screen is set to less than this, the page should display somewhat properly, but you may have to scroll left and right to view the entire page. If you are at 800x600 or greater, you should be able to size your browser window large enough to avoid left to right scrolling.
  Bandwidth
This site has been optimized for modem-bandwidth usage. Graphics have been kept to a minimum and page formatting is contained in a shared .css file. Certainly, the whole web browsing experience is enhanced by using broadband, but we do not want to make the user experience of our site painful for those not using broadband.
  Navigation: General
We have attempted to make navigation from page to page as streamlined as possible. There is a link back to the frontpage at the top right of every page. Additionally, there are almost always links in the right column that are likely to take you most of the other places you might want to go. If you find a place you want to go frequently from another frequented page that does not have a direct path, let us know. We promise to consider adding such a link.
  Navigation: Login/Personal Menu
In the right column of almost each screen you will find the Login/Personal menu. If you are not currently logged into the system, it will be titled Login and will given you an opportunity to create an account and/or log in. If you are logged in, it will display your login name along with a few personal options.

Some of the features of our site are custom-tailored to each individual. Logging in allows you to set personal preferences about how you view this site, such as how to display the comments attached to article or journal. Additionally, while anyone may contribute to the discussions at any time, only logged in users may contribute journal articles.
